Its Oscars tonight and almost all the media just seems to be so high on testosterone that it only seems to be the news of national importance. I can't help but think why we as a country are so obsessed with the approval from the West? Why is there so much brouhaha when a movie gets nominated for an Oscar? The world is heading towards globalization and there is no escaping that and we as a nation cannot expect to hold our unique place if we keep undermining ourselves like this. What do we lack? Talent, resources, wealth or heritage? The answer is none of the mentioned. We don’t need to cater the tastes of other nations at the cost of our self respect. Every nation is identified from the uniqueness it has and all my fellow Indians I really don’t need to elaborate on this (just go n read your history books man.. and right from mathematics, medicine, science , philosophy, literature, architecture…you name it and you will find India right in the middle of things). Well categorisation is basic to human cognition. In any case we do and we will create categories parallels and similarities... and I don't see any problem with that particularly until that becomes an end in itself...and a source of validation. Depending on only others for policies etc is somewhat problematic but the one has to know this that approval constantly comes from another just like disapproval. We live in a world society and everyone has a part to play. Feedback is important and necessary. Though self approval is definitely a priority. I don't see any problem with calling things nything but ya one must remember that naming is not THE only thing that should be done... There's a lot more to it. As far as the media is concerned it creates a hype for anything and everything leave alone Oscars. If India gets an Oscar I think I will be proud. But even if they don't I'll still love the hindi films and songs for what they are with or without an Oscar.It's the way you look at it!
thot provoking...it is true that Indians are constantly seeking solace in the western culture...be it movies or mishaps...bt as far as the case of oscars v/s filmfare goes....i disagree with you....oscars are an international recognition and very much aptly coveted and rightfully desirable....Bt yes...we as Indians should be proud of our national awards too and international appreciation is all the more flattering...not because they're better than us...but because we need to make the world know that we're as good as them if not better....now you analyse this!!:P:P
